Da Silva Endorses Bezanson For Plymouth County Commissioner
Primary Rivals Unite To Oppose Casino/Racetrack; Da Silva Says Wright "Wrong" for Plymouth County
(HINGHAM) – Carlos Da Silva, who lost the Democratic Primary for Plymouth County Commissioner to Alex Bezanson by just 89 votes out of more than 45,000 ballots cast, has endorsed Mr. Bezanson’s candidacy for Plymouth County Commissioner (Full disclosure: I worked for Mr. Da Silva in the Democratic Primary, and have been involved in Mr. Bezanson’s campaign in recent weeks.)

“[Commissioner Sandra Wright] is wrong by not allowing the citizens of Plymouth County the opportunity to speak on the Horse Racing issue at their meeting in March,” said Da Silva, on Facebook. “Sandra is WRONG by scheduling [County Commission] meetings all different hours of the day and canceling them without advance notices because she is very busy doing someone’s job delivering checks for a photo op.”
“[Commissioner Wright] is WRONG in so many ways! We need to vote her out! She has been a commissioner for 12 long years! Vote for Alex!!” urged Mr. Da Silva.
The endorsement came as Mr. Bezanson — a two-term Abington Selectman — joined Mr. Da Silva, who served two terms on the Hingham School Committee, outside Hingham High School at the Special Town Meeting on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 1st. Da Silva also called into Bezanson’s Tuesday evening political discussion show on WATD to urge listeners to vote for Bezanson.
“I am deeply honored to have earned the endorsement of Carlos Da Silva,” said Mr. Bezanson. “Carlos ran a brilliant campaign, and we strongly agree on policy. We are both opposed to a casino or a racetrack on the County Wood Lot, and believe the people of Plymouth should have the final say in this matter.”
“I’m thrilled to have his endorsement,” said Bezanson.
The two former rivals agreed that policies, not personalities, were the essential question on which this race must be decided.
To that end, Selectman Bezanson agreed to adopt a series of Mr. Da Silva’s policy proposals, including a County Climate Change Committee, to consist of one member of the County Commission, and members of the community appointed to the same. Its purpose would be to evaluate how the County is prepared to deal with the reality of our changing and warming climate.
Above all, both candidates affirmed their respect for local democracy, and for the right of the People of the municipalities of Plymouth County to have the ultimate say over the future of their communities. They likewise agreed that a County Commission that followed the Open Meeting Law – which the current Commission has failed to adhere to on multiple occasions.
The Election is on Tuesday, Nov. 8th.
How things should be but often aren’t. Bezanson will have my vote.
