County Commissioner Candidate Bezanson to Hold Community Meeting at Plymouth Public Library
Event on Nov. 2nd; Bezanson's Opposition to a Horse Track/Casino
(PLYMOUTH) – Alex Bezanson, the Democratic candidate for Plymouth County Commissioner, will hold a community meeting at the Plymouth Public Library at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2nd.
Bezanson, a two-term Abington Selectman with extensive experience in local government, will discuss his campaign to return transparency and respect for democracy to the Plymouth County Commission. He has come out against a casino/horse track on the County Woodlot, behind Camelot Drive in Plymouth.
“I remain entirely opposed to the proposal to build a casino, a racetrack, or anything else on the County Wood Lot that the People of Plymouth don’t want to see built there. What is done with that parcel must always have the support and approval of the People of the Town of Plymouth,” said Bezanson.
“This campaign is all about democracy; unlike my opponent, if I am elected to the County Commission, I will always respect the wishes, and the will of the people, of every one of our Plymouth County communities,” he continued.

Mr. Bezanson’s opponent, the current Chair of the County Commission, has strongly supported the casino/race track proposal, despite 88% of voters in the Plymouth Town Elections opposing the proposal.
As regular readers may know, this is one of the issues which inspired the founding of this publication, and I worked hard for Selectman Bezanson’s opponent in the Democratic primary, Carlos Da Silva. But we are now in a two candidate race — one, the current Chair of the County Commission, Sandra Wright, supports a casino/horse track, while her challenger, Alex Bezanson, does not. I believe those of us who are likewise opposed ought to vote accordingly.
Before his election to the Abington Select Board in 2015, which he currently chairs, Mr. Bezanson served for 23 years on the Abington Conservation Commission, 15 of them as chair, and was elected Water Commissioner in 2013.
He has been endorsed by Congressmen Bill Keating (D-Bourne) and Stephen Lynch (D-Boston); State Senator John Keenan (D-Abington); State Senator Mike Brady (D-Brockton); Rep. Josh Cutler (D-Pembroke); Plymouth County Register of Probate Matt McDonough; Randy Lamattina, Chair, and Justin Evans, of the Whitman Selectboard; Mike O'Loughlin, Chair of the Rockland Selectboard; Steve Darcy of the Marshfield Selectboard; and former Marshfield Selectboard member Mike Bradley. He has also been endorsed by Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, Iron Workers Local 7, IBEW Local 103, and the Professional FireFighters of Mass. Norfolk Central Labor Council.
In Abington, Mr. Bezanson and his wife, Lisa, were critical in founding two charitable organizations, HUGS (Help Us Give), in 2009, devoted to providing aid to people dealing with medical expenses as a result of serious illness, and the Abington Substance Awareness Coalition, now known as Abington C.O.P.E.S., which brings speakers on recovery to local schools, and helps local residents access detox and long-term treatment services.
A graduate of Marshfield High School who attended Quincy College, Mr. Bezanson owns a small building and remodeling business and resides in Abington with his wife, Lisa.
The General Election is on Tuesday, November 8th.
